Death Star made from 30,000 LEGO pieces

Forget the LEGO Star Wars sets that you see on sale – they don’t even come close to Jay Hoff’s latest LEGO project: a recreation of the Death Star landing bay. Spending six months on his creation, the school teacher used 30,000 LEGO pieces in his faithful recreation of the scene in Return of the Jedi where Emperor Palpatine lands on the Death Star to inspect Darth Vader’s progress. While you don’t have to be a fan of Star Wars to admire the model, you gotta admire his dedication: it cost him about $2,300 to build, and he only got to show off the model for one day at his school’s Science Discovery Day (I’m pretty sure he bested all his students with his project).
